Membership is open to all Canadian citizens. There are three different categories in which to join:
- Ordinary - Veterans, Military personnel, RCMP, police officers
- Associate - Direct relatives of Ordinary members
- Affiliate - People who believe in the purposes of The Royal Canadian Legion
